The Canadian government is worried because
young people don't seem to care much about politics. They
are desparate to find ways to get young voters to care enough
to vote.
The politicans have talked about the "youth
problem" a lot, but nothing happened until recently.
Talk turned to action last week when MP Nathan Cullen had
a brainwave. Nathan Cullen, an MP from Northern British
Columbia, stood up in the House of Commons and said, "If
we want to know what students think, why don't we just ask
them?" The House of Commons erupted in applause at
Nathan's very novel idea.
The MPs got together with Much Music and
decided to create the Politcal Beliefs Music Video Contest.
In this contest, students create music videos that demonstrate
their political beliefs. At the end of every video, the
student ends with the line: The _________ party gets my
vote. The blank gets filled in with whatever federal political
party the student likes best.
You are going to create a political beliefs
music video for the contest. You will send it in and then
see if you win. If you win, you earn the title of "Canada's
Next Top Politician."
